Idaho State Director of Athletics Pauline Thiros has announced that a five-year contract extension has been finalized for Idaho State women’s basketball coach Seton Sobolewski that extends to May 22, 2026 at a salary of $130,000. There is also built in annual salary increases of $6,000.
The contract calls for nine different bonus opportunities totaling a maximum of $95,000 in supplemental compensation, and an increase to the assistant coach salary pool of $32,500.
“Every aspect of Idaho State Women’s Basketball is performing at an extremely high level under Coach Sobolewski’s leadership,” Thiros said. “We intend to continue investing in the infrastructure that yields success, and that certainly includes the staff. As one of the top performing coaches in the Big Sky, Coach deserves to be compensated competitively, and I believe we have achieved that with this contract.”
The extension comes after the women’s basketball program had one of its best seasons in program history, finishing 22-4 and winning the Big SKy Conference regular season and tournament championship. Idaho State earned a No. 13 seed in the NCAA tournament and played No. 4 Kentucky close before falling 71-63.
Sobolewski just finished his 13th season and boasts a record of 231-169. In conference play, he is 142-89. The women’s basketball program has twice won the Big Sky Conference and advanced to the NCAA tournament under his leadership.
Over the last six seasons the Bengals have tallied 118 wins. They have four road wins over Power 5 teams and the best home win percentage in the Big Sky in the last 12 years (76.9 percent). The program has also won 20 games or more in three of the last four seasons.
“My family and I are absolutely thrilled to be staying in Pocatello,” Sobolewski said. “We love the life we have built here and the friendships we have made. I look forward to continuing our traditions and success on the court.”
