Jennifer Schooler has resigned as the head women’s basketball coach at Evergreen State College, effective immediately.
Schooler cited personal reasons for resigning in her third season as head coach. She compiled a 25-37 record during her tenure at Evergreen, including a 3-8 mark this year.
“Coach Schooler has been a valuable member of our team and was successful in helping advance this program. We wish her the best in future endeavors as we move forward. We are committed to facilitate a successful transition for our outstanding student athletes,” said Director of Recreation and Athletics, Andrew Beattie
Beattie also announced that Gil Rigell will serve as Evergreen women’s basketball interim head coach through the remainder of the 2016-17 season.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Gil Rigell. Coach Rigell brings experience, maturity and proven success to Evergreen,” said Beattie.
Rigell was head coach at Pacific Lutheran University from 1997 to 2007 where his teams compiled an overall 196-69 record, won or shared five Northwest Conference championships and made six national tournament appearances.
A formal search process for permanent appointment of the position will follow.
