Head women’s basketball coach Mark Trakh announced the hiring of former Aggie Erica Sanchez as the third assistant to the program. Sanchez played basketball for the Aggies from 2007-12 and was coached by Trakh during the 11-12 season.
Sanchez joins the Aggies in replace of Stacey Nichols, who was with the NM State staff for one season.
“We are very excited to have Erica Sanchez joining out staff,” head coach Mark Trakh said. “She was a solid player and student-athlete and I am excited to see her grow as a coach. I always believe that is it important to help former players and give them an opportunity to break into the business.”
Sanchez’s duties with the Aggies will include on-court coaching, recruiting, travel, equipment and community liaison.
Sanchez played in 97 games as an Aggie and shot a career-.380 field goal percentage. She had 278 rebounds while with NM State and worked for 185 on the defensive side of the ball. Sanchez started a total of 25 games at NM State with 39 blocks and 43 assists.
After graduating from NM State with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2012, Sanchez began her coaching career at The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, Calif. She also spent the year coaching an Elite Basketball Organization (EBO) club team.
