The Yavapai College athletics department is excited to announce the hiring of Ryan Walcott to be the next assistant women’s basketball coach at Yavapai College. Walcott will serve on the women’s basketball staff with head coach Gerrard Carmichael, who took over coaching duties in January of 2022.
“I am honored and excited to be a Roughrider,” said Walcott. “I am also excited to be a part of the new basketball buzz around town.”
Walcott’s no stranger to basketball in Arizona. In fact, he dominated as a high school player at Shadow Mountain High School, where he was a four-year starter. As a Matador, Walcott earned USA Today All-America and Arizona Co-Player of the Year honors in 2000 while leading his team to a 5A state championship.
After high school, Walcott continued his basketball career at basketball powerhouse UCLA where he played from 2000-04. While a member of the Bruins, Walcott earned most improved player honors in 2001-02 and outstanding team play honors in 2002-03. He also earned his bachelor’s degree in history from UCLA.
Following his playing career, Walcott was a head trainer at Desert Foothills Athletic Club from 2006-09. From 2009-17, he was the head trainer at Team Bibby Basketball where he mentored over 100 players, including NBA talent in Deandre Ayton and Marvin Bagley.
While being a trainer with Team Bibby Basketball, Walcott was also a varsity assistant coach at Cactus Shadows High School from 2012-15.
More recently, Walcott was the head trainer at LA Blue Chip Academy of Basketball from 2017-21. While there, Walcott was also a freshman head coach and varsity assistant at Brentwood School in Los Angeles.
In 2021-22, Walcott was the head women’s varsity basketball coach at Arcadia High School.
