Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball head coach Chrissy Roberts will not be retained, Director of Athletics Stephen Lochmueller announced on behalf of the university.
Roberts’ contract expires in 2019.
“Chrissy Roberts has been – as a player, an assistant coach and a head coach – an outstanding ambassador for Eastern Kentucky University,” Lochmueller said. “Her love for this program and this university is matched by very few. However, after a thorough review of our women’s basketball program, I have determined now is the right time for a change in leadership. We wish Chrissy nothing but the best in the future. She has been a shining example of what it means to be a Colonel.”
Roberts was selected as Eastern’s eighth head coach on May 29, 2008. In 11 seasons, her teams compiled a 122-194 record. Under her guidance, the Colonels finished with a winning record three times and qualified for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament on six occasions.
Roberts coached nine All-OVC selections, eight OVC All-Newcomer Team choices and two OVC All-Tournament honorees. In 2017, her team received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for its commitment to serving the Richmond community.
A national search for Eastern Kentucky’s next women’s basketball head coach will begin immediately.
