According to a report by WECT News in Wilmington, NC, Tina Martin is now serving as the Interim Head Women’s Basketball Coach at UNC Wilmington.

The report said in part that “In an email Monday morning announcing the team’s Virtual Media Day, UNCW quietly added that Tina Martin will be the team’s interim head coach during the annual media event.”

There was no mention of current head coach Karen Barefoot, and why she is not currently coaching the team. A UNCW spokesperson told WECT that this is a “personnel issue” and did not offer any further comment.

Barefoot has been at UNCW for the past three seasons where she has compiled a 40-51 (.440) record. She has also been the head coach at Old Dominion, Elon, Lenoir-Rhyne, and the Apprentice School.
