Regis names Santa Fe head coach

The Regis College athletics department is proud to announce the hiring of Angela Santa Fe as the Pride’s next head women’s basketball coach. Santa Fe spent the previous two years as an assistant with the Pride and takes over a program fresh off its first New England Collegiate Conference championship.

Angela Santa Fe becomes the 10th coach in the history of the Regis College women’s basketball program and takes over for former coach Julie Plant, who moved onto Saint Anselm’s College in July.

"I am extremely excited and grateful to be named the new head women’s basketball coach at Regis College," said Santa Fe. "I would like to thank Athletic Director Rob Riley, as well as the college for the opportunity to work in such an incredible institution, department, and community. This program has taken great strides in the past couple of years, and I look forward to not only continuing that success but taking the program to new heights."

Santa Fe helped lead the Pride to an unblemished 36-0 mark in its first two years in the NECC. While as an assistant, the Pride also made its first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 1995-1996 season. She served as the women’s basketball program’s recruiting coordinator and also coordinated all team travel, film exchange, fundraising and community service. On the floor, Santa Fe was responsible for all post play development as well as scouting reports and practice plans.

Prior to Regis, Santa Fe spent a year as an assistant on the University of Southern Maine women’s basketball team after graduating from USM in 2011. She was a three-year member of the program, helping lead the Huskies to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances including an appearance in the 2006 NCAA Championship Game and a Sweet 16 bid in 2007. She scored 551 points (6.8 ppg) and grabbed 262 rebounds (3.2 rpg) in her three years in Gorham, Maine.

Former Regis coach Julie Plant added, "Congratulations to Regis College for making a great hire for the women’s basketball programs future by appointing Angela Santa Fe as the next head coach. Having had the opportunity to coach with Angela at Regis for two seasons, I know what a tremendous person and leader she is. Her ability to recruit high caliber student-athletes and the passion she has for teaching the game will keep the program moving in the right direction for years to come."
