The University of San Francisco women’s basketball program and Head Coach Molly Goodenbour have officially hired Greg Rahn as an assistant coach, solidifying the coaching staff.
“Greg will be an excellent addition as our staff is complete,” Goodenbour said. “His experience running a successful program at Pacific Union and then working with Tim LaKose at Dominican were the main reasons I chose him for this position. As a relentless worker and a highly motivated individual, he will do a great job building relationships, and I know the players will enjoy working with him.”
Rahn comes to the Hilltop with a wealth of experience at the collegiate level, as he recently served as the associate head coach at Dominican for the past three seasons. Under Rahn’s guidance, he helped guide the Penguins to three consecutive winning seasons, one 20-win season, and three straight PacWest Championship appearances. He also was part of a coaching staff that directed the team to its first national ranking in program history during the 2023-24 campaign.
Last season in 2023-24, Dominican recorded a 20-10 record, the most wins in a single season since the program went 21-7 in 2018-19. The program got off to an electric start, winning 16 of its first 19 games, including a 74-69 win over No. 9/13 Western Washington to help push the Penguins to No. 24 in the D2CSC Women’s Basketball Division II Media Poll, the program’s first-ever national ranking.
The Penguins concluded the regular season in fourth in the PacWest Conference standings and appeared in the PacWest Tournament semifinal for the second straight season.
Before his time at Dominican, Rahn was the head men’s basketball coach at Pacific Union from 2014-21. At the helm, Rahn dramatically improved an inherited 48-207 program and posted a .519 winning percentage in his first three seasons.
In a historic 2016-17 season, Rahn led the Pioneers to a 16-7 overall record, while totaling 10 wins in California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) play. As the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament, Pacific Union upset Cal Maritime, 71-70, in the Cal Pac Championship to earn its first-ever title in program history. The Pioneers went on to appear in the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship, falling to Cornerstone in the Round of 32.
Since 2023, Rahn has also coached, led, and managed the Bay Area Phoenix, a professional women’s basketball team that competes in the Women’s Premier Basketball Association (WPBA). Rahn surpassed expectations in his first two seasons, leading the team to back-to-back WPBA playoff appearances, including a semifinal appearance.
In 2024, Rahn was named head coach for the WPBA All-Star Game after receiving the highest number of votes from players and coaches.
Rahn graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and completed his master’s in sports administration from Arkansas State in 2022.
