Quntashea Lewis, head basketball coach at Salem College (NC), has been named as the new head women’s basketball coach at Virginia Wesleyan University, according to Andrea Hoover-Erbig, Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. She replaces Liz Hudy, who stepped down after three seasons to work in private business.
Lewis and Desiree Driver of Averett University join the league this season as the first African American women’s basketball head coaches in ODAC history.
“Quntashea is a bright, young and upcoming star in the coaching profession,” said Hoover-Erbig. “She has an established reputation as a player and coach and comes highly recommended by some of the most respected leaders in the women’s basketball coaching profession. We are excited for her to join our Virginia Wesleyan family.”
“My thanks to Coach Hoover-Erbig for this opportunity at such a distinguished institution,” Lewis said. “Playing and coaching against VWU has brought an appreciation for the quality of the University, its sports facilities, and the athletic department. Virginia Wesleyan provides an outstanding student-athlete experience in a premier location. I look forward to building on that success and immersing myself in the Marlin culture and working with our amazing student-athletes.”
Lewis joins Virginia Wesleyan University after spending the last three seasons as the head coach of the Salem College Spirit in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Prior to taking over the head coaching role at Salem, Lewis spent the 2018-19 season as an assistant coach at Mount Saint Mary College.
