Queens University of Charlotte adds Parunak as Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach

Queens University of Charlotte has announced the addition of Kristin Parunak as an assistant women’s basketball coach. Parunak joins the program after previously working as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Newberry College women’s basketball team.

“I’m ecstatic to have Kristin by my side on this journey,” said Head Coach Sarah Jansen. “There is no doubt in my mind that she will have a significant impact on our program and the lives of our student-athletes.”

Having previously worked together, both Jansen and Parunak coached the Mars Hill Lions in 2014, leading the program to its first South Atlantic Conference appearance in five seasons. During her time as the assistant coach with the Lions, Parunak helped to implement key training that developed the program both tactically and athletically.

Recently, Parunak served as the assistant coach of the Newberry Wolves during the 2015-16 season helping the team reach the semifinals of the SAC Championships. Furthering her understanding and technique for the game, Parunak helped continue the conference’s best consecutive winning streak boosting the team to its 12th back-to-back winning season.

Parunak brings with her a wealth of knowledge having worked under several different coaching systems. She served as the assistant athletic director and assistant coach at Catawba Valley Community College in 2012. The following season, she worked at Christopher Newport University as an assistant coach with an active role in daily practice planning during the team’s 2013 NCAA Elite 8 and 2014 Sweet 16 appearances.

“I am excited about the opportunity to join the Queens women’s basketball program,” said Parunak. “I have known Coach Jansen since I was in high school. Having worked for her in the past, I know her work ethic, core values, coaching philosophies and how she takes care of her players and staff.  She has been a mentor to me and I am thrilled to help her build Queens University into a championship program in the SAC, both in the classroom and on the court.”

Parunak was a player herself, serving as a starter at both Presbyterian College and Concord University. In addition to her starting roles, she earned the Big South Rookie of the Week while at Presbyterian and served as co-captain of her Concord team. Parunak earned a Bachelor of Art degree in psychology with a concentration on sports.
