Former Saint Joseph’s standout Ashley Prim ’13 has been named an assistant coach for the Saint Joseph’s women’s basketball program, head coach Cindy Griffin announced today.
Prim comes to Hawk Hill after spending the past season as an assistant coach at La Salle. Joining the Explorers in June of 2021, Prim helped La Salle finish fifth in the Atlantic 10 standings this past season and post its first winning season since 2016-17.
“We are excited to bring Ashley Prim back to Hawk Hill after playing professionally for several years and then coaching at the Division I level,” Griffin said. “Ashley has a keen eye for talent, an extraordinary work ethic and incredible relationship skills. Ashley knows what it takes to compete and win in the Atlantic 10 and we are excited that she will bring that mentality with her to Hawk Hill!”

Prior to La Salle, Prim spent two seasons at Sacred Heart, serving as the coordinator of basketball operations for the 2019-20 season, before being promoted to assistant coach in 2020-21. As an assistant coach, Prim was responsible for recruiting, scouting, and guard development, and helped Adrianne Hagoodand Nikki Johnson earn All-NEC honors.
A dynamic guard, Prim led the Hawks’ backcourt for four seasons and guided St. Joe’s to four consecutive postseason appearances, including the 2013 Atlantic 10 title and NCAA Tournament berth. Appearing in 123 career games, the Bridgeport, Connecticut, native also earned Big 5 Rookie of the Year and A-10 All-Rookie Team accolades, also was named the 2010-11 A-10 Sixth Player of the Year. A member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and SJU Athletic Director’s Honor Rolls, Prim graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sports marketing.
Following her collegiate career, Prim played professionally in Puerto Rico, Bulgaria, Ireland, Mongolia and Dubai. She began her coaching career in 2018-19 as an assistant coach for the Kolbe Cathedral girls’ basketball team, and boys’ volleyball team.
