Preston named assistant at Capital

Andrea Preston has been selected to be Capital University’s latest addition to the women’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant, head coach Dixie Jeffers announced. Preston is a former head coach with more than 10 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level.

Preston most recently served as head coach at Hiram College from 2007-14. She led the Terriers to a program-record six consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament appearances from 2007-13 and tied a school record in wins in 2010-11.

In addition to directing all facets of the women’s basketball program at Hiram, Preston served on several NCAC and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association committees during her time at the helm. She was also the assistant compliance coordinator, helping student-athletes coordinate completion of necessary NCAA Division III paperwork.

Prior to Hiram, Preston served as head coach at Clarkson (N.Y.) University for two seasons. Her assistant coaching experiences included stints at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (2002-04) and Earlham (Ind.) College (2001-02).

Preston was a ticket sales executive for the Minnesota Lynx in 2004.

At Capital, Preston will serve as coordinator of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and assistant compliance director in addition to her coaching duties under Jeffers, who enters her 29th season at the helm of the program.

Preston earned a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Luther College (Iowa) in 2001. She graduated with a master’s degree in exercise and sport science/sport administration from Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2004.
