Pollari resigns as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at D2 Wayne State College

Wayne State College Director of Athletics Mike Powicki has announced that Brent Pollari has submitted his resignation as head women’s basketball coach at Wayne State College.  In seven seasons on the Wildcat bench, Pollari (paul – uh – rye) produced records of 75-103 overall and 50-94 in NSIC games including marks of 11-16 and 8-14 (10th place) in the NSIC this season.

Wayne State athletics will immediately begin conducting a search for its next head women’s basketball coach.  The school is currently completing a $30 million dollar athletic and recreation facility renovation with more facility improvements underway for the future.

Since joining the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in 1999, Wildcat women’s basketball has a rich tradition of success winning five regular season championships, three NSIC Tournament titles and one Central Region title in 2012.  WSC women’s basketball has qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament seven times since 2006 and has had 10 20-win seasons since 2004.

Past head coaches include Chris Kielsmeier, who was 237-72 (.767) in 10 years with the Wildcats, leading the team to four NSIC regular season titles in a span of five seasons (2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015) to go with one NCAA Central Region title (2012) and two NSIC Tournament championships (2010, 2012).  Kielsmeier currently serves as the head coach at Division I Cleveland State.

Ryun Williams also coached Wayne State women’s basketball for 10 seasons accumulating a 182-106 record (632) and now serves as the head coach at Division I Colorado State.  He guided the Wildcats to its’ first-ever NSIC regular season and tournament titles in 2006 while also taking WSC to the Division II National Tournament twice in 2006 and 2008 while posting three 20-win seasons.
