Plefka resigns as Women’s Basketball Head Coach at Auburn Montgomery

Auburn University at Montgomery head women’s basketball coach Jon Plefka has announced his resignation to pursue another coaching opportunity.

“I am beyond thankful to have been given the opportunity to lead the AUM women’s basketball program,” Plefka said. “We accomplished so much this season with 20 wins, our first home GSC postseason game, and first GSC semifinal appearance. More importantly, I am forever thankful to have worked alongside Coach Ashlee’ Phillips and to have coached such amazing student-athletes. I truly appreciate all of their hard work and dedication on and off the court. I will always cherish my time spent at AUM and wish the program nothing but the best in the future.”

Plefka led AUM’s program for one season and finished with 20 wins and earned the No. 4 seed in the Gulf South Conference Tournament, which was the program’s first time reaching postseason play since joining the conference.

“I am so thankful for everything that Jon has done to elevate our women’s basketball program and our athletic department,” Director of Athletics Erik Maas said. “Coach Plefka has a bright future ahead of him and I am very appreciative of all that he accomplished as a Warhawk. We wish him the very best.”

The Warhawks were also ranked in the NCAA Division II South Regional Rankings for the first time in program history.

This past season, Plefka coached Allasha Dudley who became AUM’s first player to be named to the All-GSC Team and she earned D2 CCA All-South Region Team honors.
