Auburn University at Montgomery athletics and head women’s basketball coach Jon Plefka has announced Ashlee Phillips as the new women’s basketball assistant coach.
“I am excited to join Warhawks Nation,” said Phillips. “I have an opportunity to help equip, encourage, and invest in the women’s program in a special way on and off the court, and I am thankful for the opportunity to be closer to family and friends. I am thankful to Coach [Jon] Plefka for giving me the opportunity to work with him again.”
Phillips joins the Warhawks after serving as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at fellow NCAA Division II member Post University, helping lead the Eagles to a 21-10 overall record and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Conference Championship runner-up finish this past season.
“I couldn’t be more excited to have Ashlee on our staff as assistant coach,” said Plefka. “She was an integral part of our success at Post for many years, not only on the court but especially off the court as well. She will make an immediate impact here at AUM and I can’t wait to share the sidelines with her again.”
A native of San Bernardino, CA., Phillips was a key piece of Post’s 2021-2022 season that saw the Eagles go 19-8 overall and make another CACC semifinals appearance.
Phillips, who also coached at Post in the 2018-2019 season, re-joined the Eagles after serving as as an assistant coach at the University of Bridgeport. Prior to coaching the Purple Knights, Phillips was an assistant coach at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill. She was on staff for a season there before serving as interim head coach for the Highlanders.
While in her most recent successful stint at Post, Phillips also served as the Community Director that helped select, train, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate Residential Life staff across six different campus buildings.
Phillips has put together an impressive resume in the women’s basketball coaching world. In addition to her collegiate stops, Phillips has also been an assistant coach of the Memphis Elite AAU team and the assistant coach at Evangelical Christian School in Memphis, Tenn.
Orignally from California, Phillips moved to Memphis, Tenn., and attended Kingsbury High School where she played varsity basketball. She began her collegiate career at Brewton-Parker College as a member of women’s basketball team, cross country team, and track and field teams. Phillips then transferred to Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss. and finished her collegiate career as a track and field student-athlete.
Phillips holds a bachelor’s degree from Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss. and a graduate degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine.
