The Indiana University Kokomo athletic department, led by Director of Athletics Heather Hayes, has announced the hiring of Lisa Pflueger as the next head coach of the women’s basketball program.
When asked about what Lisa will bring to the program moving forward, Hayes had this to say: “I’m thrilled for Lisa to lead our women’s basketball program. Her strong performance during her three-months in the interim role showcased her abilities, and I’m eagerly anticipating what she’ll achieve with more time. Lisa’s love for Kokomo, her passion for the game, and her genuine dedication to our program stood out during the search process.”
Pflueger is set to stay at IU Kokomo after spending a majority of last season as the interim head coach, and previously serving as an assistant. Her coaching career has included many stops, including two stints as a high school head coach at both Western and Rochester as well as being a varsity assistant at both Carmel and Kokomo High Schools.
Lisa, IU Kokomo’s fifth women’s basketball coach in program history, said this about taking over as the squad’s new leader: “I am blessed and I give all glory to God. He has prepared me for this opportunity. We will build a program with our wonderful student-athletes to make IU Kokomo and our community proud! Thank you to the selection committee for believing in our vision for this program! We are off and running.”
A graduate of perennial NAIA power University of the Cumberlands (Ky.), Lisa earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in math in her time at UC, all while being a two-sport athlete for the Patriots in both basketball and softball.
