UNC Asheville women’s basketball head coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick has announced the hiring of Florida State graduate assistant Josh Petersen as an assistant coach with the Bulldogs.

Petersen worked for the Seminole program for six seasons, the past two years as a graduate assistant. He was FSU’s head manager for four years prior to his graduate work.

"Our newest Bulldog family member is one of the most enthusiastic people I have ever met and a rising star in this profession. Almost as soon as Josh stepped on campus for his interview I felt he was the right fit for our program,” stated Kirkpatrick. “I am very familiar with the basketball program at Florida State, and I trust that Josh’s experience as both a manager and graduate assistant under head coach Sue Semrau have prepared him to contribute to our program immediately.

“His hard work and authentic charm will endear him to the Bulldog family and pay dividends for our team,” added Kirkpatrick. “Our kids deserve the best in a staff and with the addition of Josh Petersen we have assembled the necessary parts to make this a very special season. This is a great day for UNC Asheville women’s basketball."

In his six years with FSU, the Noles went to five NCAA Tournaments, including the Elite Eight in 2010.

As a graduate assistant with the Seminoles, Petersen’s responsibilities included directing the scout team, assisting with video, helping with team travel and official visits plus aid skill development and individual workouts. Josh also helped run Florida State’s women’s basketball camp while he was in Tallahassee.

A native of Abernathy, Texas, Petersen moved to Tallahassee before his senior year of high school and graduated from Godby High School. He earned his master’s degree in sports management at FSU in the spring of 2014 and his B.S. degree in accounting and finance in 2012.
