Missouri Baptist University Director of Athletics Jeff Fore has announced that the women’s basketball program will be under new leadership heading into the 2024-25 academic year. Samuel Pearson (’13, ’15) just wrapped up his sixth season as head coach after a promotion from the assistant head coach seat in 2018.
In his six years at the helm, Pearson compiled a 90-78 overall record and a 72-47 mark in American Midwest Conference games. After the promotion to head coach, Pearson guided the program to continual improvement over the next five seasons. In Year One (2018-19), the Spartans finished 8-20 and 7-17 in the AMC and steadily increased their win totals to 12, 17, 18, and 24 in successive years.
MoBap reached new heights in 2022-23 with a 24-6 record and a share of the AMC regular-season title. It represented the most wins in a single season and the first trip to the NAIA Women’s Basketball National Tournament since 2005-06. The Spartans finished 11-17 and .500 in league play this season.
“We would be remiss without acknowledging our appreciation and gratitude to Sam for his hard work and dedication to the women’s basketball program,” Director of Athletics Jeff Fore said. “We wish Sam all the best in his future endeavors.”
A national search for Pearson’s successor will begin immediately.
