Eastern New Mexico University Athletic Director Dr. Jeff Geiser has announced the hiring of Josh Prock, to be the new head women’s basketball coach, for a Zia program, which has reached the Lone Star Conference tournament in each of the last two seasons. Prock becomes the eighth coach in the history of the program and succeeds Lindsey Wilson, who guided Eastern to 14 LSC wins over two seasons, including a victory over 2012 South Central Region finalist, Midwestern State.
“It is indeed an honor to announce the hiring of Joshua Prock as the next head coach of the ENMU Zia basketball program,” said Geiser. “Coach Prock has passion for coaching and for basketball. He expects his student-athletes to excel both on the court and in the classroom. His coaching pedigree is outstanding. It includes stints at Howard Payne University where won 78% of his games, Billy Ryan High School (Texas), Kentucky Wesleyan and the University of Oklahoma where he worked for legendary coach, Kelvin Sampson. These qualities alone made Coach Prock the best candidate however, there are more: He played and graduated from Clovis High School and finally, he has a wonderful family (wife Angie, twin four year olds and a three week old). They will be great assets to our community. I look forward to working with Josh Prock as we move the Zia program to the top of Lone Star Conference.”
“I want to thank (ENMU President) Dr. (Steven) Gamble, Dr. Geiser and the entire search committee for believing in me,” said Prock. “My family and I are excited about the move to Eastern New Mexico University, to come back to the area that I graduated from high school. We will definitely miss Howard Payne, it was a great place for my family and I. I would like to thank Dr. Hall, Mike Jones and Dr. Ellis, for giving me the opportunity at Howard Payne University. My family and I are very excited about this transition and can’t wait to move and get started at Eastern.”
In five seasons at Howard Payne University, Prock posted an impressive 108-31 record over his five seasons (2008-2012) at HPU, with a 9-5 mark in postseason play. In the 2010 and 2012 seasons, he was chosen as the American Southwest Conference West Division Coach of the Year. During that time, the Yellow Jacket’s lineup featured two All-Americans, a pair of American Southwest Players of the Year and five all-region selections. His squad was just as successful in the classroom, with 13 Academic All-ASC honorees. Prock also served as the assistant athletic director for development, at Howard Payne.
Prior to three seasons at Billy Ryan High School (Denton, Texas), Prock was an assistant coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College (Owensboro, Ken.). During his two seasons with the Panthers, Prock handled recruiting, player development, scouting, practice planning and community relations.
