University of Texas-Pan American women’s basketball head coach Denny Downing’s annual contract will not be renewed following its expiration at the end of March, UTPA Director of Athletics Chris King announced Monday. Downing recently completed his fourth year with the Broncs.

Downing compiled an overall record of 51-68 and a Great West Conference mark of 21-21 over four years.

"After a careful review of our women’s basketball program, I feel it is in the best interest of the program to seek new leadership," King said.

“We wish Denny all the best and thank him for his efforts with the Broncs women’s basketball program the past four years.”

A search for Downing’s replacement will begin immediately.

UTPA’s yearly records to date over the past four years:

2009-10: 14-16, 8-4 GWC

2010-11: 12-19, 4-8 GWC

2011-12: 13-17, 5-5 GWC

2012-13: 12-16, 4-4 GWC
