The Coast Guard Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Emily O’Donnell as the women’s basketball assistant coach for the 2018-19 season.
O’Donnell joins a team that earned an appearence in the NEWMAC tournament for the sixth straight year after completing the 2017-18 season with a 13-13 record.
O’Donell spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant coach for the women’s basketball team at Misericordia University. She earned her Masters Degree in Organizational Management Health Care from Misericordia.
While coaching at Misericordia, the team had their winningest record in a two year span, was named to the WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Roll and coached the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom and ECAC-Division III North Region Women’s Player of the Year. The Cougars also led the conference with the most community service hours as well
O’Donnell earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Albright College where she was a four-year member of the women’s basketball team and holds the career record for games played.
She was named to MAC Commonwealth All-Sportsmanship team selection and was Albright’s NCAA Woman of the Year.
As a senior team captain, O’Donnell helped Albright secure the MAC Commonwealth title and a trip to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. She led the Lions to MAC Commonwealth and ECAC championship appearances as a junior.
