University at Albany women’s basketball head coach Colleen Mullen has announced the addition of Shae O’Brien as the Assistant Director of Operations.
“We’re excited to welcome Shae [O’Brien] as our new Assistant Director of Operations to the Great Dane family,” said Mullen. “Over the past three seasons as our head scout player, Shae has demonstrated dedication, reliability, and a strong work ethic that have contributed to our success. His energy and enthusiasm is contagious. We are confident he will continue to make a positive impact in his new role.”
O’Brien will assist in the day-to-day operations of the UAlbany women’s basketball program, including team travel, scheduling, budgetary coordination, and the organization of camps and clinics. He will also play a key role in supporting scouting, practice operations, and the continued development of the program’s winning culture.
“I am super excited and honored for this opportunity to be a part of Coach Mullen’s staff,” said O’Brien. “I look forward to learning from Coach Mullen and being a part of the prestigious program and winning culture that she has built.”
A native of Niskayuna, N.Y., O’Brien has been a member of the UAlbany women’s basketball program since 2023, serving as a practice player and head scout player. During that time, he has helped the Great Danes to two of their last four 20-win seasons and three America East Championship appearances.
O’Brien graduated this past May with a degree in business administration, concentrating in marketing and management. A Magna Cum Laude student and recipient of the 1844 Scholarship, he has been named to the Dean’s List five times.
