Oakland hires assistant

Julie (Pagel) Dombroski has been named an assistant coach for the Oakland women’s basketball team, announced head coach Jeff Tungate on Tuesday. She joins the Golden Grizzlies’ staff after spending the last seven seasons at Michigan State.

"This is another great day for our basketball program," said Tungate. "We have added a second member to our coaching staff who brings a great resume with her. Her success speaks for itself. Julie has a great passion for the game, a great passion for winning, and more importantly, she truly cares about the student-athletes. She is a rising star in this profession and we are very fortunate that she has chosen Oakland University as the place to continue her career."

(Pagel) Dombroski has been the Director of Basketball Operations and Technology for the Spartans since 2007, during which time MSU has two Big Ten regular-season championships. She also played at Michigan State from 2001-04 where she concluded her career as one of only three players in school history to rank in the top-20 in career points and top-10 in career rebounds and steals. (Pagel) Dombroski sits 26th in the MSU record book with 952 career points and is seventh all-time in free throws made with 282. She is also seventh in games played (120), 10th in rebounds (667) and 11th in steals (185).

Prior to working at MSU, she spent a season as the graduate assistant at Detroit before being promoted to assistant coach in 2005 and then recruiting coordinator in the summer of 2006.

"I am thrilled to be a part of the Oakland women’s basketball family," said (Pagel) Dombroski. "My family and I would like to thank Dr. Robby Stewart, Jeff Tungate and the entire Oakland University athletic department for this tremendous opportunity. I am excited to help Coach Tungate build on his success from last season and I look forward to my ability to contribute to the Golden Grizzlies’ athletic department."
