North Carolina A&T women’s basketball head coach Tarrell Robinson announced two hires on Monday to complete his staff for the upcoming 2020-21 season.
Steven Rhodes will join his staff as an assistant coach. Jasmine Rhodes (no relation) will be the new player of development.
Steven Rhodes had two stints at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C., as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Steven Rhodes returned to Belmont Abbey in February of 2020 after spending two seasons there starting in 2017.
During his time at Belmont Abbey, the team posted a 67-22 record and won the Conference Carolinas regular-season championship last season, the first one in 18 seasons. In 2018-19, they advanced to the conference title game for the first time in 15 seasons.
“Steven is a tremendous addition to our program,” Robinson said. “He has a great reputation as a recruiter and player developer in our profession. He is a tireless worker and relationship builder. He will fit well with the rest of our staff.”
In between his time at Belmont Abbey, Steven Rhodes became an assistant coach at Radford University in Radford, Va., starting in August of 2019.
During the 2019-20 season, the Highlanders finished second in the Big South, a game behind first-place Campbell.
Steven Rhodes is a 2014 graduate of UNC Wilmington. He also has his master’s from UNCW.
Jasmine Rhodes comes to Aggieland from rival Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU). She was a strength and condition coach for the school since August 2018. Her sports included men’s and women’s golf, bowling and cheerleading. She assisted with football, softball, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, men’s and women’s tennis, volleyball and men’s and women’s track and field.
“Jasmine brings a lot of love and passion for people that is unmatched,” Robinson said. “Being a former collegiate basketball student-athlete, she shares a connection. Her experience will help develop our student-athletes both mentally and physically as we continue to compete to win championships.”
Prior to her time in Daytona Beach, Fla., Jasmine Rhodes spent 10 months in Iowa for William Penn University as an assistant athletic performance coach.
She played college basketball at LSU. She saw action in 122 career games at LSU as a women’s basketball player with 30 starts. She finished her four-year varsity career with 430 points, 300 rebounds, 93 assists and 112 steals. She helped her high school, Faith Academy, to a combined 60-5 record during her junior and senior seasons.
Jasmine Rhodes was a strength and conditioning intern at Baton Rouge, La., for two years starting in May of 2015. She also was a seasonal performance coach at Michael Johnson Performance in McKinney, Texas in 2017.
Jasmine Rhodes is a 2017 graduate of LSU and has a master’s from B-CU.
