Director of Athletics Jessica Gould announced the hiring of Nate Stailey as Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Friday afternoon. Stailey brings a wealth of basketball knowledge and a plethora of success to Newbury after spending the last five years as the Head Coach of the UConn-Avery Point women’s basketball team.
While at UConn-Avery Point, Stailey recorded an 80-35 record while earning New England Region XXI Coach of the Year honors in 2012 and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III District F Coach of the Year in 2009. In addition, he guided the Pointers to back-to-back NJCAA Regional Championship game with a 15-8 record in 2011-2012 and a 12-7 record in 2012-2013.
A member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Stailey is familiar with the brand of basketball in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC). For two season, from 2008-2010, he coached former Daniel Webster guard and 2011-12 NECC All-Tournament Team representative, Sarah Paternostro.
Prior to his time at UConn-Avery Point, he spent a year at the University of New Haven where he worked as an Athletic Media Relations Graduate Assistant while earning his Master’s Degree in Sports Industries. As a Graduate Assistant, Stailey served as the direct media contact for Chargers softball team and their 2008 NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Finalist run. In addition to being the softball media contact, he also served as the game management supervisor at athletic contests facilitating in the set-up and break down of equipment.
A native of Pennsylvania, Stailey graduated from Lock Haven University in May of 2001 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education.
