After spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach on the Arkansas State women’s basketball staff, Lizzie Nessling has been promoted to associate head coach, A-State head coach Destinee Rogers announced Tuesday.
Nessling spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the Red Wolves, serving as the team’s recruiting coordinator this past season.
“Lizzie has proven that she is worthy of this opportunity,” Rogers said. “She works extremely hard and understands exactly how we want to run our program. She plays a major role in our recruiting and has done a great job bringing in great players. She is an upcoming star in this business and I look forward to continuing to build with her.”
Nessling joined A-State ahead of the 2020-21 season after two seasons as an assistant at Seward County Community College in Kansas, where she aided in coaching two WBCA All-Americans. She was also responsible for recruiting one of the 2019-20 KJCCC Co-Freshmen of the Year and current Red Wolf Leilani Augmon.
“First, I want to thank Coach Dezz for trusting in me to take on this role,” Nessling said. “I am beyond grateful and look forward to continue working alongside her. Arkansas State has been such an amazing place to work, with the most supportive administration and community. I am grateful for our family-like staff that makes this job so enjoyable, and am thankful for the players that made this all possible. Even with all the adversity they faced this year, they were truly bought-in and never stopped giving us their all every day. I am excited to continue coaching them and helping build this program into something truly special. The future here is so bright! Wolves up!”
Prior to Seward, Nessling spent two years as an assistant at University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas, where the Lady Spires won 37 games in her two years, reaching the semifinals of the KCAC Tournament in both seasons.
As a player, she was a 2-time captain for Lincoln University’s women’s basketball team where she received the Glue Guy Award for two straight years and was recognized as the True Blue 2016 Athlete of the Year her senior year. She also took the program from a 5-win season to tying the program history record for most MIAA conference wins and the best conference finish.
Nessling earned her master’s degree in Business Administration from University of Saint Mary in 2018 and her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Lincoln University in 2016.
Earlier this month, Rogers announced the hiring of Ari Wideman as assistant coach, joining Nessling, Connor McNelis and Erin Campbell on Rogers’ women’s hoops staff.
