Nebraska-Kearney head women’s basketball coach Carrie Hofstetter announced today that Brandon Rohr is the Lopers new assistant coach.
The Tobias native and Nebraska Wesleyan graduate begins immediately. In the summer, Hofstetter will announce the name of her graduate assistant to round out her coaching staff.
“I am thrilled to welcome Brandon to UNK and the Loper family. Coach Rohr, a southeast Nebraska native, brings with him an infectious passion for the game, an incredible work ethic, and an unwavering commitment to excellence both on and off the court,” said Hofstetter.
Rohr has extensive collegiate experience, having been an assistant at the Division I (Southern Illinois U. & Jacksonville U., Fla.), Division II (Southern Arkansas U.) and Division III (Concordia U., Texas) levels.
“I’m looking forward to being a part of Coach Hofstetter’s staff and bringing UNK back to its winning ways. I was really fortunate to work for (SAU) Coach Rusty Rainbolt this past year but I’m excited to be back coaching in my home state,” said Rohr. “UNK is an incredible place full of winning tradition, good hearted people and a very clear vision of chasing greatness. I’m extremely honored to work here and help Coach Hofstetter build this program.”
This past season, he was at as SAU, helping implement offensive and defensive schemes for the Muleriders. Also responsible for scouting future opponents, Rohr came up with a defensive game plan that resulted in a win over No. 12 Arkansas Tech and held another league rival to nine first half points.
Offensively, the team improved its field goal percentage with three players ranking in the GAC (Great American Conference) top 10 in individual field goal shooting
For the Jacksonville Dolphins in 2013-14, Rohr served as second assistant and recruiting coordinator. Also working with post players, he helped JU finish fourth in the Atlantic Sun Conference and recruit players from five different states.
Two of those student-athletes were named to the 2015 ASC All-Freshman team with one being tabbed as the league’s top freshman. In the lane, Jacksonville led the league in rebounds and offensive rebounds per game.
At SIU-Carbondale in 2012-13, Rohr was the third assistant and recruiting coordinator. Working with the Saluki posts, he coached the Missouri Valley Conference’s leading rebounder and communicated with high school and AAU coaches from an eight-state region.
From 2009-12, Rohr was at D3 Concordia in Austin, Texas. Serving as assistant coach and academic and recruiting coordinator, he also was the head freshman coach for one season.
The Tornados won 37 games between 2010-12, reaching the 2012 NCAA Tournament and finishing first in the league. His recruits won a slew of individual awards, including earning Player, Newcomer and Freshman of the Year in the American Southwest Conference.
“Brandon has earned a solid reputation for being a great recruiter and teacher of the game, and truly understands the impact culture has on the success of a program. His coaching experience at the collegiate level will enable him to hit the ground running and make and immediate impact on our program. I’m pleased to have Coach Rohr join our staff and I’m convinced that he is a great fit for our program and our future,” said Hofstetter.
Rohr holds a B.A. in Sports Management from NWU and a Master’s in Organizational Management from Wayne State. As an undergraduate, he was on the Prairie Wolves baseball and track teams
