NAIA NEWS: Lovitsch promoted to Interim Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Saint Xavier

Assistant coach Sidney Lovitsch has been named the interim head coach of the Saint Xavier University women’s basketball team for the 2023-24 season. She takes over the program after former head coach Travis Brewster accepted the same position at NCAA Division II Chadron State College (Neb.) earlier this month. Lovitsch joined the SXU coaching staff last season after suiting up for the Cougars from 2017-22.

While playing for Saint Xavier, she set the program record for most games played with 146 and is one of just 22 players for SXU to score 1,000 or more points. She finished her career with 1,266 points, putting her No. 14 in team history. Lovitsch also is No. 10 in steals with 257, No. 11 in assists with 329, No. 13 in blocked shots with 80 and No. 14 in field goals made with 485. She was a four-time Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) All-Academic Team honoree, a two-time Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, a two-time All-CCAC Second Team selection and was the CCAC Defender of the Year in 2021-22.

Lovitsch had this to say about her elevation to interim head coach, “I would like to thank Saint Xavier Interim Athletic Director Ken Alston for giving me this opportunity. I am truly honored to be named interim head coach of the women’s basketball team. I am beyond excited to begin this journey and I am committed to continuing the success and tradition of this already prestigious program. Being an alumnus, I know how important this program is and am grateful to continue to be a part of it.
