Mt. St. Mary’s hires assistant

Mount St. Mary’s women’s basketball Head Coach Bryan Whitten announced the hiring of Brittany Pinkney, who played for Whitten at VCU, as an Assistant Coach for the Mountaineers beginning in 2013-14.

"I’m excited to have Brittany join our staff," Whitten said. "I coached her my two years at VCU, and she was very outgoing. She was a sponge in terms of gaining knowledge of the game and was a very hard worker as well. We have stayed in contact since graduation and after playing professionally, she got into coaching, and I have always heard great things about her. I’m looking forward to the contributions that she will make to Mount women’s basketball."

Pinkney graduated from VCU in 2008 and was coached by Whitten when he worked for the Rams as an assistant coach during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons.

"I am honored, grateful and blessed to have the opportunity to coach with Coach Whitten at Mount St. Mary’s," Pinkney said. "I’m excited to help with the success of the program and the direction it is heading in the future."

Pinkney makes her way to Emmitsburg from Bucknell, where she worked as the Director of Basketball Operations during the 2012-13 campaign helping the Bison to a 15-16 record and a spot in the Patriot League Semifinals.

Prior to Bucknell, Pinkney spent two seasons at Salisbury where she assisted with recruiting, scouting and film exchange for the Sea Gulls. She was in charge of monitoring academic progress of the student-athletes as well as organizing the team’s community outreach projects.

Pinkney has also coached at the Chase Your Dreams Basketball Camp and Sonia Chase Summer Sports Camp in Maryland.

Following her collegiate career at VCU, Pinkney played in the Extraliga League Women’s Basketball in Roznava, Slovakia from 2008-10.

Pinkney graduated from VCU in 2008 with a degree in Recreational Parks and Sport Management. While with the Rams, she served as team captain during her senior campaign and was named to the VCU Athletic Honor Roll. After returning to the States, Pinkney completed her Master’s in Education at Salisbury in 2012.
