With 24 years of head coaching experience and 440 wins already to her name, Jeannette Mosher has been hired as the new UT Tyler women’s basketball head coach by Athletics Director Dr. Howard Patterson.
“After a lengthy search and several highly qualified candidates, we’re excited and fortunate to welcome Coach Mosher to the Patriot family,” Dr. Patterson said. “She’ll be taking over reins of UT Tyler’s successful women’s basketball program. Coach Mosher brings a wealth of coaching experience and will usher Patriot women’s basketball into the NCAA Division II arena.”
Mosher will officially begin at UT Tyler on July 1, 2018 and a formal press conference will be scheduled upon her arrival.
Mosher has coached at SUNY Cortland the past 20 season and will take over a Patriot program that has gone 121-25 over the past five seasons. A Lafayette, Indiana native who is a member of four basketball hall of fames, Mosher had an All-American career as a player at St. Joseph’s College before pursuing a coaching career that has resulted in a .676 win percentage entering her 25th season which will be at UT Tyler.
“I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead of me at The University of Texas at Tyler,” Mosher said. “I look forward to building a program and know that my experience at SUNY Cortland will help me through the challenges. My visit and conversations with staff members at Tyler, seemed natural and genuine. It feels like a great fit. I am very excited. There comes a point in our life where we seek new challenges and opportunities.”
At SUNY Cortland, Mosher led the Red Dragons to five State University of New York Athletic Conference tournament championships, to seven regular-season titles and the program advanced to eight NCAA postseasons. She was named the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) East Region Coach of the Year in 2009-10 after leading the team to a 25-4 record and to the SUNYAC regular-season and tournament titles and is a six-time SUNYAC Coach of the Year selection. Along with the conference honors, Mosher has been honored by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York with six Coach of the Year honors and was a 2017 BCANY New York State Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee.
Along with head coaching experience at SUNY Cortland and four years at Alfred University, Mosher was an assistant coach at Northern Michigan University four years with the program going 85-31 with two appearances in the NCAA Division II postseason during that time. She got her first collegiate coaching position at Shippensburg University where she served as a graduate assistant after her playing career. Mosher is a 1990 graduate of St. Joseph’s College where she finished as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,280 points. A Great Lakes Valley Conference Hall of Fame member for her performance on the court, Mosher helped St. Joseph’s to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight and earned All-American and GLVC Player of the Year honors as a senior. She has been inducted to the St. Joseph’s Athletic Hall of Fame and was selected to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2011 Silver Anniversary Team.
“I am an Indiana girl and we live eat and breathe basketball,” Mosher said. “I love the sport and it is important to me. I want my players to enjoy and appreciate the college-athlete experience. I want to provide opportunities to be competitive and at the same time modeling sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect. Player development goes well beyond the basketball court and helping my players prepare for the world after basketball is my highest priority.”
Mosher becomes the fifth head coach in UT Tyler program history, taking over for Kendra Hassell who led the Patriots for three years before returning to her alma mater Hardin-Simmons in March. UT Tyler has advanced to six straight American Southwest Conference tournaments and advanced to the NCAA Division III postseason three of the past five seasons.
