Morgan Cooper Joins Queens Women’s Basketball Staff

Queens University of Charlotte Head Women’s Basketball Coach Sarah Jansen has added Morgan Cooper to her staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming season.

“I am excited to announce the addition of Morgan Cooper to our coaching staff,” said Jansen. ” Morgan’s experience as a student-athlete, values and coaching philosophies will positively influence our program. She is committed to cultivating meaningful and impactful relationships with players, recruits and the Queens community.”

Cooper joins the Royals after graduating from fellow South Atlantic Conference member Lenoir-Rhyne University where she was a part of the women’s basketball team and track team for four years.

On the hardwood, Cooper totaled 867 points and 430 rebounds in 113 career games for the Bears. She was a SAC Preseason All-Conference honoree prior to the 2015 season and was named as the Lenoir-Rhyne Defensive Player of the Year each season.

Cooper is no stranger to success as she helped lead the Bears to 65 total wins, including a SAC Regular Season Championship in 2013-14. LR was also the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament in the same year after compiling a 24-7 overall record.

A complete student-athlete, Cooper competed in the long jump and triple jump for Lenoir-Rhyne’s  track and field team and is the current school record holder in the long jump. The Virginia Beach, Va. native also served as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President and is a volunteer for Play 4 Kay.

“I am grateful to Coach Jansen and the entire Queens University administration,” said Cooper. “The warm welcomes from each and every staff member has made my transition into the coaching world almost effortless. I believe in Coach Jansen’s vision and her plan to revive the women’s basketball program.

“The created environment of hard work and loyalty by Coach Jansen and Coach [Kristin] Parunak is contagious and I am excited for everything I will learn and contribute this year.”

Cooper graduated with a double major in marketing and management, registering  a 3.70 GPA and being named to the Dean’s List on six different occasions.
