Moore, Xavier mutually part ways

Xavier Athletics and Head Coach Melanie Moore have mutually agreed to part ways, Vice President and Director of Athletics Greg Christopher announced today.

“We appreciate Melanie and her staff for their work the last four years. Melanie led the program in a first-class manner, navigated her team through Covid and always focused on what was best for the young women in our Women’s Basketball program,” said Christopher. “We collectively thank Melanie for her efforts and wish her the best moving forward.”

“I want to thank everyone at Xavier, including our former players, for the opportunity to lead this program,” said Moore. “A special thanks to my staff and team for their hard work and commitment.”

Moore compiled a 24-81 (8-60 BIG EAST) record in four seasons and coached two players to All-BIG EAST honors. Off the court, 16 players earned Academic All-BIG EAST Honors. Ayanna Townsend was also named the 2021-22 BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, becoming the first Musketeer to earn the academic honor.

“Basketball is important for Xavier University, and our Women’s Basketball program has a tradition and history of success,” said Christopher. “We expect that our Women’s Basketball team can be competitive within the BIG EAST and play in the postseason.”

A national search will begin immediately.
