Monmouth University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Jenny Palmateer has been replaced, effective immediately, Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Marilyn McNeil announced.
“I want to thank Coach Palmateer for her guidance over the past six-plus seasons of our women’s basketball program,” said McNeil. “She guided the team into a new era when we joined the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and the entire University community is appreciative of her efforts.”
Palmateer amassed an 86-111 overall record in six and a half years at the helm of the Monmouth women’s program. Top assistant Jody Craig will assume all head coach responsibilities.
The South Amboy native was the second-longest tenured coach in Monmouth history, and earned a 58-58 record in conference play. Coming to Monmouth after serving as the recruiting coordinator at Seton Hall in 2010-11, she led the Hawks to the Northeast Conference Championship Game during her first season in 2012-13. The Hawks advanced to five straight conference quarterfinals over the ensuing seasons, with the final four coming in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Throughout her tenure, Palmateer guided her student-athletes to three All-Conference Second Team selections, two MAAC All-Rookie Team selections, two MAAC Sixth Player of the Year selections, and two NEC All-Tournament Team selections.
Monmouth, 2-7 on the season, will host Virginia Tech on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. That game, which will air on ESPN3, is slated for a 7 PM start.
