On Tuesday, Director of Athletics Susan Cassidy-Lyke (Hicksville, N.Y.) announced the hiring of Kate Lynch (Rumford, R.I.) as Molloy College’s Head Women’s Basketball Coach. She joins the Lions after a successful three-year stint at the Community College of Rhode Island.
Dubbed the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association National Coach of the Year in 2012-13 by the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association, Lynch guided the Knights to a 25-7 mark, and a District N Championship last year. She recruited a three-time WBCA All-American to CCRI as well, and led the program to three-straight Region XXI regular-season titles.
Prior to that, Lynch served one-year appointments as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and the Director of Basketball Operations at Fairfield University. In her short tenure at WPI, the Rhode Island native organized recruiting events, broke down film on the team’s opposition, and held in-season individual skill workouts.
As a student-athlete, Lynch had a wealth of experience on the Division II stage, playing four years at Southern Connecticut State University. With the Owls, she was a two-time First-Team All-American, and All-Northeast 10 Conference choice. Lynch also presently holds four all-time school records, including the career scoring mark, and assisted SCSU in capturing the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2007.
