Mock named assistant at Hillsdale

he path from Allendale to Hillsdale, first traversed by Hillsdale College head women’s basketball coach Claudette Charney, has now been traveled by new assistant coach Jon Mock.

Mock joined the Charger coaching staff in July 2012 after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Grand Valley State University. Mock said he is excited to remain in the GLIAC, home of the last two Division II national runner-ups.

A native of Eaton Rapids, a little more than an hour’s drive from Hillsdale, Mock helped coach the Lakers to 48 wins in three seasons, and one trip to the NCAA Division II regional tournament. Under his guidance, four Lakers earned First-Team All-GLIAC recognition in his three seasons, and Briauna Taylor was tabbed Honorable Mention All-American in 2010-11. He specialized in coaching the guards at GVSU.

Charney is entering her 11th season leading the Charger women’s basketball program

Prior to his tenure at GVSU, Mock spent eight years coaching basketball in the Eaton Rapids school system. During that time, he coached 2010 Hillsdale College graduate Kayla Whitmyer, also an Eaton Rapids alum.
