Kansas State women’s basketball head coach Jeff Mittie announced today the addition of Stephanie Stoglin-Reed to the staff for the 2015-16 season. Stoglin-Reed will serve as the team’s coordinator of recruiting operations.

Stoglin-Reed joins Mittie’s staff that features associate head coach Brian Ostermann, who has 24 seasons of coaching experience, assistant coach Ebony Gilliam, who has three seasons of collegiate coaching experience and four seasons of high school coaching experience at Trimble Tech and Dunbar High School in Fort Worth, Texas, and assistant coach Jacie Hoyt-Capra, who has two seasons of collegiate coaching experience.

“Through the process Stephanie’s name came up in various recruiting circles as someone that is an up and comer in our profession,” stated Mittie about his newest staff member. “She has been on coaching staffs on both the men’s side and the women’s side of college basketball, which is unique. The other thing she brings to the table is that she has really been around coaching her entire life. Her dad, Andy, worked with Nolan Richardson for many years and was the head coach at Jackson State in Mississippi for a long time and has a great reputation. Stephanie appears to be one of those young coaches that has absorbed a lot of knowledge and has done quite a bit in her young career.”

Before her appointment at K-State, Stoglin-Reed was a women’s basketball assistant coach in 2014-15 at Texas State. While with the Bobcats last season, Stoglin-Reed was responsible for coaching the Texas State post players, aided in player development and recruitment and helped the program to a 17-15 record and a first round appearance in the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI).

Prior to joining Texas State, Stoglin-Reed spent one season at North Texas as the director of player development for the men’s basketball team. While at North Texas, Stoglin-Reed handled all recruiting correspondence as well as offensive and defensive efficiency tracking, individual film breakout sessions and served as a liaison for student-athlete academics.

Before joining North Texas, Stoglin-Reed was the coach at KIPP Tulsa College Preparatory Academy from 2011-13. During that time, she led KIPP to the 2013 regular season city championship and city tournament runner-up finish.

As a player, Stoglin-Reed played at Kentucky from 2000-02, Memphis from 2002-04 and finished her career at Houston Baptist in 2004-05. In her lone season at Houston Baptist, she was named a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-American, a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-American, a runner-up for NAIA Player of the Year honors, Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Player of the Year, Red River Conference Player of the Year, Red River Conference Newcomer of the Year and All-Red River Conference First Team selection.

Stoglin-Reed is the daughter of Andy Stoglin, a long-time men’s collegiate and professional coach. She is married to Chris Reed, and they have two children, Samuel Christopher and Shiloh Joelle.

Under Mittie in his first year with the Wildcats in 2014-15, Kansas State finished with a 19-14 overall record and the fifth Postseason WNIT appearance in program history and the 18th overall postseason bid. The eight win improvement from the 2013-14 season is the third largest win improvement from one season to the next in program history. The Wildcats registered a 7-11 mark in Big 12 play and tied for seventh in the league standings, which marked the most wins in league play since the 2011-12 season.

For the 2015-16 season, K-State returns eight letter winners from the 2014-15 squad. The Wildcats will be led into the 2015-16 season by 2015 All-Big 12 Second Team selection and Big 12 All-Defensive Team honoree Breanna Lewis (11.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg and 2.9 bpg), junior-to-be guard Kindred Wesemann (8.0 ppg, 2.6 apg) and senior-to-be guard Bri Craig (6.1 ppg, 2.3 rpg). Overall, K-State returns 61 percent of its scoring, 70 percent of its rebounding and 63 percent of its assists.
