The search to replace Vic Schaefer at Mississippi State is underway. I’ve talked to a bunch of people around this one, and here are the 5 names that I’ve heard the most:
- Johnnie Harris – Associate head coach Mississippi State. Had been with Schaefer for eight seasons at MSU. Also spent five seasons alongside Schaefer under Gary Blair at Texas A&M. Has high major experience at Arkansas and NC State.
- Quentin Hillsman – Head coach Syracuse. Has gone 304-160 (.655) in 14-seasons at SU. He led the Orange to the National Championship game in 2015-16.
- Nikki McCray – Head Coach Old Dominion.Wrapped up her 3rd season at ODU – went 24-6 and garnered the 2020 C-USA Coach of the Year Award. Previously served as an assistant at South Carolina where she won a National Championship in 2016-17.
- Curt Miller – Head Coach Connecticut Sun. Former head coach at both Indiana and Bowling Green (290-124 overall). Led the Sun to the WNBA Finals last season.
- Jeff Walz – Head coach Louisville. Obviously his name comes up in every high major search. Has gone 359-104 (.775) in 13 seasons at Louisville. Has led his team to the National Championship game twice.
More on this one as it continues to develop.
