According to a report form the Clarion Ledger, Mississippi State assistant women’s basketball coach Malikah Willis has resigned.
Willis had not been on the MSU bench since the late December MTE that the Bulldogs hosted. According to the Clarion Ledger, “a rift developed between interim coach Doug Novak and Willis after a loss to Troy to open that tournament, according to three people with knowledge of the situation.”
This was Willis’ first season in Starkville. She had also worked at Eastern Michigan (2020-21), Norfolk State (2007-09), West Virginia (2009-13), Georgia Tech (2013-17), the College of Charleston (2017-19), and Texas Tech (2019-20).
Mississippi State has not commented on the nature of the resignation, but did tell the Clarion Ledger, “we wish Coach Willis well in her future endeavors.”
The Bulldogs are currently 15-11 (6-8 SEC)
