Millsaps hires assistant

Millsaps College Head Coach Chuck Winkelman announced the hiring of Jason Greer earlier this week as the new Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach.

Greer replaces former assistant Jerrie Cooper, who has taken a job at perennial powerhouse John Paul II, a high school in Plano, Texas, as an assistant coach.

He has over 13 years of experience at the collegiate, high school, and junior high levels. He spent the previous two seasons as the Head 9th Grade Girls and Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Northwest Rankin High School in Flowood, Miss. During his stint at Northwest Rankin, the team finished as District Runner-Up twice, and won the 2011 MHSAA Class 6A State Championship.

Greer began his career in 1998 as a student assistant coach at Belhaven College. After leaving Belhaven, Greer became Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Hillcrest Christian School, where he was on the staff that led the school to the 2001 MPSA Class AAAA and Overall Championships. Over the next five years he would serve as the Head Boys Coach at Greenville Christian School and Head Girls Coach at Canton Academy.

He entered the public school ranks in 2006 as the Boys Basketball Coach at Byram Middle School. From there he served as Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball and Head Junior High Boys Basketball Coach at Morton High School, before leaving for NW Rankin.
