Milby named head coach at Berea

Trent Milby has been named the head coach of the Berea College women’s basketball program.

He comes to Berea after spending the past seven seasons at the helm of the girls’ basketball program at Marion County High School, where he amassed a 208-36 record. This past season Milby led the Lady Knights to an undefeated 39-0 season and a state championship, finishing the year ranked #4 nationally by USA Today. Milby was named the 2013 Naismith National Women’s Coach of the Year.

Milby is also co-founder of Kentucky Premier, an AAU organization sponsored by Nike. In just three years, Milby has placed 20 players from Kentucky Premier in NCAA Division I basketball programs. He inherits a Mountaineer basketball program that finished the 2012-13 campaign with a 13-17 record and 8-7 in conference play.

"We are excited to have Trent Milby lead our women’s basketball program," says Mark Cartmill, Berea College’s athletic director. "His previous coaching success and resume shows his incredible ability as a coach and his ability to develop players. During our search, we found him to be a man of outstanding character. That is a quality Berea College holds in high regard, and one we want to surround our student-athletes with."

Milby had this to say, "It’s a great opportunity for me to take the next step in my coaching career. I look forward to working with the young ladies at Berea College, to building a championship atmosphere, and most importantly, to mentoring my players to be good basketball players but even better citizens. That’s what Berea is all about, and that’s what I’m about. This is a great match."

In his new role at the college, Milby will also handle compliance-related responsibilities for the athletic department. Milby earned his undergraduate degree in K-12 physical education from Lindsey Wilson College in 1999 and completed a master’s degree in physical education from Western Kentucky University in 2005. He resides in Campbellsville, Ky.
