Messiah Reames Added to Longwood Women’s Basketball Staff

Longwood head women’s basketball coach Bill Reinson announced the addition of Messiah Reames to join the squad as an assistant coach.

Reames comes to Longwood after spending time coaching at the high school level, the Philly Triple Threat AAU program and working as a skills assistant with James Madison and George Washington.

“Coach Reames will be a very welcome addition to the Longwood women’s basketball program,” Reinson said. “He has a long track record of working with Division I caliber student-athletes and he has an unmatched passion for the game of basketball. He believes in developing future leaders and has established lasting relationships with the young women he has coached. His experience and enthusiasm will be valuable assets to our program.”

Reames most recently spent the last seven seasons coaching the Philly Triple Threat AAU program in Philadelphia, Pa., ninth, 10th and 11th grade females. Reames helped guide his team to the 2012 Chicago Nike National Championship, as he handled aspects with practice planning, in-game coaching and skills development. During his time with the Philly Triple Threat, Reames had an opportunity to coach numerous players who went on to play at the Division I level, including the American Athletic Conference and Atlantic 10 to go along with four players who attended Power Five schools, all four competing in the ACC and Big 10.

In addition, Reames served as the head varsity girls basketball coach at Harriton High School in Bryn Mawr, Pa., from 2012-16, earning the most wins (51) in a four-year span in the school’s history. He also posted a 6-0 record against rival Lower Merion after becoming the first coach to defeat Lower Merion since 1983. Under Reames’ tutelage, he led Harriton to a program-best 18-5 record in 2013-14 with a trip to the Central League Semifinal & AAAA District appearance.

“I’m tremendously humbled and honored to have the opportunity to work at such an amazing university,” Reames said. “I’d like to thank coach Bill Reinson and director of athletics Troy Austin for giving me the opportunity to live my dream. I look forward to working with the team to not only become better basketball players, but most importantly better overall individuals in life.”

Reames’ experience working with Division I student-athletes comes from his work with skills development at both James Madison and George Washington. Reames worked with James Madison recruits in the summer of 2015 and George Washington recruits in the summer of 2014 and again in 2015, assisting with skills development and team building.

Reames got his start in coaching in 2007 with the Higher Ground Warriors organization in Philadelphia, contributing to the development of the program during the inaugural season and leading the 16 & under division of the program to a 10th-place finish at 2009 AAU Nationals during its second year of existence.

A 2005 graduate of Cabrini University in Radnor, Pa., Reames finished his collegiate career as a three-time PAC All-Conference selection and scored 937 career points. He led his squad to a 2001-02 PAC Conference championship and to a NCAA D-III Sweet 16.
