Mercyhurst Women’s Basketball Staff Update

As Mercyhurst makes the transition to Division I, the Mercyhurst Women’s Basketball team is excited to announce their new staff for the upcoming season. Under the direction of Head Coach Brooklyn Kohlheim, the Lakers turned a corner in 2023-24 posting an overall record of 18-11, while earning a spot in the conference post season. The Lakers have now announced Molly Glick as the Recruiting Coordinator, Rahmon Fletcher as the Assistant Coach for Player Development, Andrew Monti as the Assistant Coach for Performance, and Ali Gorrell as their Mental Coach.

When asked about the current staff now in place, coach Kohlheim stated that “Our goal when we first found out about the transition was to build a staff that gives us a competitive advantage on the recruiting trail. Our staff for this transition is the number one reason why players should choose Mercyhurst. It starts with Coach Molly identifying and evaluating the player. Coach Fletch was then hired specifically to develop the skills necessary to compete against our new scheduling demands. We then hired Coach Monti as a performance coach to ensure we had a coach solely working with women’s basketball throughout the whole basketball season, both at home and on the road. In addition, we were able to elevate Ali to a mental coach as she will be taking on additional responsibilities for our team’s support needs as we make this transition. Anyone who wants to be developed as a person and a player, and build something special, can now find a home here at Mercyhurst.”

Molly Glick

After spending the last two years as an assistant coach, Glick now takes on the bulk of the recruiting duties for the squad. Having improved the roster every year since joining the staff, Glick will continue to evaluate players for future rosters. Coach Kohlheim speaks to elevating Glick and says that “Coach Molly will be re-joining us in the transition and taking over the role as our recruiting coordinator. Her role is of paramount importance as this transition presents some complexities and a learning curve that is specific to Mercyhurst. Her background and organizational skills are essential to our staff and a perfect fit for us on the trail. Coach Molly has working experience here at Mercyhurst and comes from a D1 level, both as a player and a coach at Northern Kentucky. She knows what skills are needed to compete in our non-conference schedule, in the NEC, and what players we like in our locker room. She has connections with coaches both in our backyard and in surrounding states that will help us as we move forward as a program.”

Rahmon Flether

Rahmon joins the staff after being the Director of Player Development of Men’s Basketball at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. Fletcher, a legendary figure in Green Bay men’s basketball history, returned to Titletown in the summer of 2023 to mentor and assist in one-on-one work with players. Fletcher was also a guard on the men’s basketball team from 2007-2011.

“We are thrilled that Coach Fletch will be joining our staff as our first assistant. Coming off an historic season with Wisconsin Green Bay men’s basketball, Coach Fletch was a major part of that rebuild having developed an entire roster of players into the biggest turnaround in NCAA men’s basketball history. Coach Fletch brings a wealth of experience having just finished up his professional career overseas in countries such as the UK, the Netherlands and Slovakia, all while earning multiple league and tournament MVP’s as well as multiple all-league honors. Not only is Coach Fletch a great basketball mind, but he is a great connector and a perfect fit for what our roster needs with this transition.”

Andrew Monti

Coach Monti will be joining the staff as the team’s Physical Performance Coach after spending time with the University of Alabama at Birmingham, The University of Memphis, Miami University, and Presbyterian University. Coach Kohlheim states that “Our goal for this position was to have someone on our staff in a full-time role to meet the demands of this transition and as we take another step forward as a program. We knew from the moment we spoke to Coach Monti that his personality and temperament was a perfect fit for our program and our staff. Coach Monti comes to us with a resume of collegiate experience that is specific to our needs as a program. He has developed strength programming and oversaw a weight room renovation at Presbyterian. He also aided in performance programming with the 2022-23 University of Miami’s men’s basketball team who went on to post a 29-8 record after losing in the Final Four to UConn. Andrew will give us a competitive advantage as he will handle all areas of performance needed with our new schedule and travel.”

Ali Gorrell

After spending time as a remote volunteer, Ali Gorrell has been elevated to the team’s new Mental Performance Coach. “Our entire program loves working with Ali” says Kohlheim. “We are happy that she not only wants to continue her relationship with us, but also take on an increased role within our program. She will continue to have individual sessions with players and coaches as well as conduct team sessions but will now be looking to have more direct access with our program. In the past, she would do most everything remotely. However now that she has relocated to Erie, she will be around our program and more accessible to our players and staff. I think this is a tremendous asset for our program.”

With the roster and staff now finalized, the Lakers will begin preparing for their first season as a Division I institution. Their schedule is in the final stages and will be released this Fall.
