Head women’s basketball coach Katrina Merriweather has added two new faces to the coaching staff for the upcoming season with graduate assistant coaches Jalise Beck and Teneshia Dixon. Both played under Coach Merriweather at Wright State and were part of the 2018-19 team that won the Horizon League Championship and earned a bid to the NCAA National Tournament.
Beck, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., played all four years at Wright State as their point guard and finished her career with 121 games played with 172 rebounds, 105 assists, 42 steals, and played over 1,600 minutes.
“Jalise was the first recruit to believe in what we could do at Wright State,” said Coach Merriweather. “She figured out how to make herself a valuable part of the team throughout her career.”
During her senior year, Beck played and started in all 31 games for the Raiders and averaged 1.5 assists/game.
“I love her story and journey as our point guard, and I’m thrilled that she will be bringing her experience to our young women.”
Dixon, a native of Brampton, Canada, played for two seasons with the Raiders where she appeared in 54 games. In her final season at Wright State, Dixon scored a season high 10 points and snagged four offensive rebounds in the team’s 79-55 win over Illinois-Chicago.
“Teneshia and I have a unique recruiting story that reminds me that things always work out how they are meant to,” said Coach Merriweather. “Despite her limited playing time, I always saw that she was dedicated to the program and the vision we have.”
Dixon started her collegiate career at Midland Community College where she averaged 7.8 points/game and shot just over 45% from the field. She also grabbed 302 rebounds and blocked 30 shots in her two seasons with the Lady Chaps.
“Teneshia brings great experience and knowledge in helping improve our post game and implement it into our offense.”
Both of these young women are winners, and it is my pleasure to add two more champions to our program who understand how we do things on and off the court,” said Coach Merriweather. “They will make tremendous additions to our profession.”
