First-year Louisiana Monroe head women’s basketball coach Scotty Fletcher has announced the hiring of Mendy McNeese as associate head coach. McNeese, who spent four years on the Pearl River staff, follows Fletcher to Monroe.
Over the last four season, Pearl River posted a combined record of 98-17, while going 50-6 in conference play. McNeese helped guide the Wildcats to three MACCC conference titles and four-consecutive 20-win seasons. In the 2024-25 season, Pearl River had a historic 25-3 record, the fewest losses recorded in program history. In 2024, the Wildcats received their first at-large bid to the NJCAA National Tournament since 2003.
“It gives me great honor to have Coach McNeese as my associate head coach as we embark on this new journey together,” said Fletcher. “Coach McNeese has been my right hand for the last four years and her ability to identify and relate to recruits make her an exceptional recruiter. Her basketball IQ is by far one of the best I have ever been around. We are like-minded with our energy which is on full display daily. We share the same alignment, loyalty, and vision for our players which leads to success on and off the court.”
“I am extremely excited and fired up to get started here at ULM,” said McNeese. “You can really tell that it is a special place to be. I can’t say enough about how welcoming everyone has been. It is safe to say the best is on the bayou at ULM!”
Prior to her time at Pearl River, McNeese spent five months at Stetson University as the Director of Women’s Basketball Operations. She was also on staff at Converse University for three seasons as a graduate assistant and eventually, an assistant coach. While at Converse, McNeese assisted in recruiting, helping in signing the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year, Keyshauna Fair.
As a player, the Greeneville, Tenn. native began her playing career at East Tennessee State University, spending two seasons with the Buccaneers. McNeese played in 37 games, totaling 24 rebounds and 22 assists while shooting 74.2% from the free throw line. She then went on to spend two seasons at Queens University, making 25 starts on 43 appearances and averaging 9.6 points per game. McNeese stands at fourth in Queens program history in career free-throw percentage (82.3%).
McNeese received her bachelor’s degree in sports management from Queens University, named the Blair College of Health and Sport Management Student of the Year in 2018. She received her master’s degree from Converse University in 2018.
