Lander University Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Stephanie Gehlhausen, has announced that Ryan McGee has joined her coaching staff for the upcoming 2023-2024 season.
“When I first spoke with Ryan, his work ethic and humility blew me away,” said Gehlhausen. “He brings both collegiate and high school coaching experience with him, as well as an eagerness to learn and grow everyday. I have no doubt that these qualities will help Ryan excel in this field, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him join our Bearcat family!”
McGee is no stranger to the southeast region or the state of South Carolina as he comes to Greenwood from Francis Marion where he helped coach the Patriots to a 20-7 record and an 18-2 mark in Conference Carolinas play. The 20 wins were the most from a Francis Marion team since the 2015-2016 season. McGee also coach the Conference Carolinas player of the Year in Lauren Taylor as well as three other all-conference players. Taylor averaged 17.7 points per game and over eight rebounds a game on her way to first team all-region honors as well.
“I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to join the Bearcat family,” said McGee. “The culture and family Coach G is creating is something anyone would be blessed to be a part of. I’m looking forward to the opportunity!”
Before joining the staff in Florence, McGee was the assistant coach for Effingham County High School Boys Basketball team in Springfield, Ga during the 2021-22 season. During that season the Rebels finished for a tie atop their region, earned a trip to the GHSA State Playoffs, and had six all-region players.
The Columbus, Ga. native graduated from Berry College in Rome, Ga. in 2021 with a degree in Sports Administration. McGee competed in two sports in his college career, playing one year of basketball at Brevard College in North Carolina before transferring to Berry where he played two years of football. In his time with the Vikings, he was a part of two SAA championship teams as a starter and earned a trip to the NCAA DIII Playoffs in 2019.
In 2022, McGee graduated from Middle Georgia State with his Masters in Arts and Teaching.
