McDonald joins Adelphi WBB Coaching Staff

Adelphi University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Missy Traversi bolstered her coaching staff with the addition of LaSheena McDonald.

McDonald previously worked at Adelphi from 2008-15. She started out as an event management graduate assistant, before eventually becoming the department’s equipment manager.

Her most recent experience came as an assistant coach at New York Tech, which had to temporarily shut down its athletic program last summer in the wake of COVID-19.

McDonald was a four-year standout at Division III program Mount Saint Mary College, where she was enshrined in the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015.

She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Business Management from MSMC in 2007 and remains the school’s all-time leading rebounder with 905 rebounds.

“We are thrilled to add LaSheena to our staff for the upcoming season. With a historic playing career at Mount Saint Mary College and recent coaching experience in the East Region, LaSheena brings a valuable background and perspective to our program,” Traversi said. “As a former member of our athletic staff at Adelphi, she already has a great understanding of how our department operates. We happily welcome LaSheena to our AUWBB family.”

McDonald helped lead the Blue Knights to an unprecedented four Skyline Conference titles in her collegiate tenure, as well as a 98-17 record (.852 winning percentage).

She was a career 1,000-point scorer and earned Skyline Conference and ECAC Division III Metro Player of the Year honors in 2016. McDonald finished her career as a three-time All-Skyline Conference and two-time D3Hoops.com All-Region selection.

McDonald currently works as a business operations senior analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York — a position she has held since 2015 — and graduated with her master’s degree from Adelphi in Sports Management in 2010.
