Western Carolina Director of Athletics Randy Eaton announced a change of leadership for the Catamount women’s basketball program as Stephanie McCormick will no longer serve as the team’s head coach. A national search for WCU’s next women’s basketball head coach will begin immediately.
“Following an evaluation and review of our women’s basketball program, I have made the decision to seek new leadership in the head coaching position. I feel it is in the best interest of our student-athletes and the program to make this change now and begin moving forward immediately,” said Eaton. “We thank Stephanie for her many years of dedicated service to the university, our student-athletes and to our community, and wish her all the best in the future.”
Eaton also announced on Wednesday that assistant coach Josh Keys will not be retained as a part of the change on the women’s basketball coaching staff.
A two-time assistant coach at WCU, McCormick had served as the 11th head coach of the Catamount women’s basketball team since April 2015, compiling a record of 23-94 and 7-49 in Southern Conference play over the past four seasons.
