The Marian athletics department accepted the retirement announcement of women’s basketball head coach Steve Brooks. Brooks served as the head coach of the Marian women’s basketball team for the last three seasons, and was a head coach in the sport of women’s basketball for 24 seasons.
“I would like to thank Coach Brooks for his three years of commitment to the Marian women’s basketball team,” said Director of Athletics Steve Downing. “We experienced a lot of success during his tenure as our head coach with three NAIA Tournament Appearances, and we wish him the best in his retirement.”
In Brooks’ time as the head coach of Marian, the Knights collected an overall record of 92-13, earning two Crossroads League Regular Season Championships. Marian won the Crossroads League Tournament in 2024, and three times reached the NAIA Tournament Quarterfinals with Brooks at the helm. In the 2023-24 season, Brooks led Marian to a 33-2 overall record, recording the longest win streak in program history with 31 consecutive victories.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to have been part of Marian University and this elite athletic program,” said Brooks. “I would like to thank Director of Athletics Steve Downing and President Dan Elsener for their faithful support and encouragement. It has been my privilege to work with outstanding student-athletes and the many support staff at Marian University.”
Brooks served as an NAIA Women’s Basketball head coach for 24 years, serving at Indiana Wesleyan, St. Francis (Illinois), and Marian Unviersity, amassing an overall record of 659-176 while winning two NAIA National Championships. Brooks also coached men’s basketball at Taylor University as an assistant coach in the late 80’s and 90’s, and was the head coach of Houghton College’s men’s program for seven seasons.
