Manns added to Green Bay Women’s Basketball Coaching staff

Head coach Kevin Borseth announced the addition of Clyde Manns to the women’s basketball staff on Wednesday morning. Manns, who spent last season with Rhode Island as an assistant coach working with the team’s guards, brings nearly two decades of coaching experience to the Phoenix staff. Prior to his arrival at Rhode Island, he served as an assistant coach at Valparaiso.

“We are very excited to have Clyde join our team,” coach Borseth said. “Clyde worked for and with two very good coaches and friends of mine and comes highly recommended. His energy and dedication will make for a very good addition to our program.”

Manns was an assistant coach at La Roche College for six seasons, a stint which included an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship team in 2003-04. From there, he became the head men’s coach at Penn State-Greater Allegheny from 2008-14, taking his team to three conference playoff appearances.

“I’m extremely excited to be joining the staff at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay,” Manns said. “I had a wonderful experience when I came in for my interview visit. I felt really welcomed by the staff and student-athletes. Everyone was very friendly and I felt like I belonged. The winning tradition that the program has is something that I definitely can’t wait to be a part of. I would like to thank coach Kevin Borseth for giving me the opportunity to work for and alongside him. I would like to thank coach Bronk and coach Vogel for making me feel welcome and Mr. Guthrie for his support.”

“To the women’s basketball team, I had a wonderful time meeting with you, and I felt your passion about winning. I can’t wait to work with you.”

Penn State-Greater Allegheny had won only five games in two years before Manns’ arrival, and it won 10 games his first season and 14 games his second year, helping Manns finish as the conference’s Coach of the Year runner-up. Manns joined the Washington & Jefferson coaching staff prior to the 2015-16 season, then spent the 2016-17 season at Chatham, where he helped the Cougar men reach the Presidents’ Athletic Conference playoffs as a second-year program.

Before joining the coaching ranks, Manns had a successful professional playing career in the American Basketball Association (ABA), United States Basketball League (USBL) and the International Basketball League (IBL). Manns was inducted into the Pittsburgh City League All-Sports Hall of Fame in 2017, solidifying his status as one of the greatest student-athletes in one of the nation’s most recognized and respected high school conferences.
