Maine hires DBO

After spending a year away from the University of Maine women’s basketball program, former UMaine student-athlete Tracy Guerrette will return to her former role as Director of Women’s Basketball Operations.

"We are all very excited to have Tracy back with us and equally pleased to still have Sam Wheeler working with our program as equipment manager," said head coach Richard Barron. "There are few, if any, who love UMaine Women’s Basketball more than Tracy and no one is more selfless in their work."

Guerrette spent two seasons (2011-13) as the University of Maine women’s basketball Director of Basketball Operations (DOBO) where she was in charge of team travel, meals and many other miscellaneous tasks including most fundraising and community events.

Prior to returning to her alma mater in her first stint as the UMaine DOBO, Guerrette spent four years as head women’s basketball coach and sports information director for the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Guerrette coordinated all aspects of the women’s basketball program including all day to day operations such as practices, game management, recruiting, fundraising, scheduling, budgeting and managing all team travel. In Guerrette’s role as sports information director, she was able to build strong relationships with student-athletes, media outlets and the University staff.

Guerrette, a St. Agatha, Maine native, graduated from the University of Maine in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in biology with a concentration in pre-med. She then received a second bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Maine at Fort Kent in January of 2006, certifying her for K-8 and 7-12/Secondary Life Science. Guerrette spent three years as an educational technician at the Community High School in Fort Kent and also at the Dr. Levesque School in Frenchville, Maine before working as a long-term substitute/first-year teacher from April 2006-June 2007 at MSAD #33 in the Wisdom Middle/High School.

Guerrette played for the Black Bears from 1998-2002 and served as captain her last two seasons. She was a recruited walk-on but earned a scholarship after a solid freshman season with the Black Bears. Guerrette led the Black Bears with 30 three-pointers in her junior season including a record-tying six made shots from behind the arc against Vermont.

Guerrette played under both Coach Joanne P. McCallie and Coach Sharon Versyp, participated twice in the NCAA Tournament, and was a member, along with recently hired assistant coach Amy Vachon, of the 1998-99 squad that knocked off Stanford.
